Author Biographies

Zara Pinto-Coelho, Centro de Estudos de Comunicação e Sociedade, Instituto de Ciências Sociais, Universidade do Minho, Braga, Portugal

Zara Pinto-Coelho is an associate professor at the Department of Communication Sciences at the University of Minho. She completed her PhD in Communication Sciences in semiotics at the University of Minho in 2003. Her research interests include discourse theories and their critical applications in media studies and cultural studies on power, ideology, inequality and social injustice, such as the intersection of gender and heterosexuality, public health, political participation and social movements. She is a co-coordinator of the project Passeio — Platform for the Study of Art and Urban Culture of the Communication and Society Research Centre.

Helena Pires, Centro de Estudos de Comunicação e Sociedade, Instituto de Ciências Sociais, Universidade do Minho, Braga, Portugal

Helena Pires is an associate professor at the Department of Communication Sciences in the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Minho. She completed her PhD in Communication Sciences in semiotics of communication at the University of Minho in 2007. She teaches in the areas of advertising and semiotics. She has published and developed research on landscape semiotics in contemporary art, communication and art, visual culture and cyberculture. She is a co-coordinator of the project Passeio — Platform for the Study of Art and Urban Culture of the Communication and Society Research Centre.

Jean-Marie LaFortune, Laboratoire de Recherche sur les Publics de la Culture, Département de Lettres et Communication Sociale, Université du Québec, Québec, Canada

Jean-Marie Lafortune is a professor in the Department of Social and Public Communication at the University of Quebec in Montreal. He is a member of the Observatory of Cultural Mediations and the Investigation Group Education and Museums. He is the editor of the journal Animation, Territoires et Pratiques Socioculturelles. He recently directed with Anik Meunier and Jason Lukerhoff the book La Transmission Culturelle Dans les Musées de Societé (Cultural Transmission in Museums of Society; La Documentation Française, 2022), and wrote the chapters "Mediation Culturelle" (Cultural Mediation; pp. 177-195) in work edited by Camille Alloing, Evaluer la Communication des Organisations (Assessing the Communication of Organisations; Presses de l'Université du Québec, 2022), and "D'outres Formes d' Intervention Dans le Monde Anglo-Saxon: Le Modele Étatsunie" (Other Forms of Intervention in the Anglo-Saxon World: The United States Model; pp. 183-192), in the book edited by Jean-Luc Richelle, Jean-Claude Gillet et l'utopie de l'animation.
